UMASH FUNERAL HOME DETAIN 'MZEE OJWANG'S BODY DUE TO UNPAID MORTUARY FEES

Problems have continued to trail veteran comedian, Benson Wanjau, popularly known as Mzee Ojwang, even in death.

After failing to raise enough money to cater for his own medication when he was still alive leading to his death from a curable disease like pneumonia, Mzee Ojwang could not afford even his own mortuary bills.

This was evident this morning after Umash Funeral Home detained his body over unpaid bills. The body, which was set to leave the mortuary this morning for burial at Lang’ata Cemetery later in the evening, was delayed for sometime after being held by Umash Funeral Home over unpaid bills before it was released for burial.

It is not clear who paid the mortuary bills before Ojwang’s body was released but it is imperative to note that it was Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko who took the body to Umash Funeral Home from Kenyatta University mortuary as a way of showing his final respect for the hero who graced Kenya’s TV screens for over 30 years.

It was the same Sonko who also took him to the hospital when he fell ill and could not afford his medical bills.

Mzee Ojwang succumbed to pneumonia on July 12th at Kenyatta National Hospital.
