Hon. Alice Wambui Ng’ang’a, fondly known as Mama Simba, continues to make a profound impact on education within Thika Town Constituency through strategic investments in school infrastructure under the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). Her commitment to improving learning environments has transformed numerous schools, uplifting thousands of learners and giving teachers the tools they need to deliver quality education.
Across the constituency, Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a has overseen the construction and renovation of modern classrooms, upgraded sanitation facilities, and established well-equipped science laboratories that support practical, competency-based learning. The KSh 68 million facelift project she launched has benefited several institutions, including Powerline Primary School, Munyu Mixed Secondary School, Queen of Rosary Secondary School, and others earmarked for upgrades. These improvements have greatly enhanced lighting, ventilation, and classroom space, making them more conducive to active learning and better academic outcomes.
Jamuhuri Secondary School is among the beneficiaries of these efforts and continues to express deep gratitude to Mama Simba for the remarkable transformation of their institution. The upgrades have improved attendance, strengthened CBC delivery, and boosted student morale and performance. The school has acknowledged Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a’s unwavering support in elevating the quality of education in their community.
A shining example of Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a’s dedication to inclusive education is Joy Town Special Primary School. Through NG-CDF, she has funded the construction of two purpose-built classrooms designed specifically for learners with physical disabilities. These rooms feature spacious layouts that allow comfortable wheelchair movement, wide corridors for accessibility, proper lighting, and reduced glare ensuring an environment that truly meets the needs of the learners. The facilities not only enhance comfort but also promote dignity, equality, and independence, positioning the school as a model of inclusion. The classrooms comply with the Children Act (2022), the Basic Education Act, and the Competency-Based Curriculum guidelines, reflecting her commitment to policies that protect and empower every child.
Beyond infrastructure, Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a has also provided robust financial support to thousands of students. More than 3,800 learners across universities, TVETs, and secondary schools have been awarded bursaries totaling over KSh 18 million. Her Imarisha Elimu initiative has introduced free meals for students in day secondary schools and reduced school fees to make education more affordable for struggling families. She continues to champion education policies, calling for accountability, better leadership, and stronger collaboration with stakeholders to sustain these gains.
Her broader leadership roles, including serving as Chair of the National Assembly’s Departmental Committee on Social Protection, further underscore her commitment to safeguarding vulnerable groups, promoting safety, and pushing for policies that uplift communities.
Hon. Alice Ng’ang’a’s development record in Thika Town is a powerful demonstration of what focused leadership can achieve. By improving school facilities, promoting inclusive education, and expanding access to learning resources, she is shaping a brighter future for the constituency while contributing directly to national goals such as economic growth, innovation, and the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals.
For the learners and teachers of Jamuhuri Secondary School, Joy Town Special Primary School, and many others across Thika Town, their message to Mama Simba remains heartfelt and sincere: thank you for transforming our schools, empowering our children, and investing in our future.
