Detectives arrest husband of girl whose body was found stashed in a suitcase

Detectives in Ruiru have arrested Simon Ngige, 23, the husband to the late Esther Wambui, whose body was dumped outside the GSU Reece Squad gate in Kimbo area on Monday.

The detectives are also following up on mobile phone conversations between the two.

Ngige is said to have escorted the deceased to her place of work a few hours before 6am last Monday, the day that she went missing. However, he never reported Wambui's disappearance to the police or informed her colleagues at work despite his wife failing to return home in the evening.

An autopsy conducted on the body of Esther Wambui revealed that she was murdered by strangling and her head was hit with a blunt object. Some samples were also taken for further analysis, with speculation that she might have been sexually abused.

The 18 years old who worked as a waitress, used to stay with her boyfriend in an informal settlement within Ruiru.

The teenager’s body was on Monday evening, January 17 found stashed naked in a suitcase which had been abandoned on the roadside. She had a deep cut in her left breast.

The words “bwana ya mtu sumu” had been written on her palms, thighs and breast.
