Suspected kidnapper gunned down in Kiandutu, firearm recovered.
Police in Thika on Saturday evening gunned down a suspected
kidnapper in the sprawling Kiandutu slums and recovered a pistol with four
rounds of ammunition.
Confirming the incident, Kiambu Police County Commander Ali
Nuno identified the suspect as 32-year
old Dennis Kimani Mwitheri aka Denoo whom he described as a
dangerous criminal who is part of a gang that has been terrorising Thika
residents for a while.
Nuno said that the deceased was traced following the kidnap
of two girls from Kenyatta Secondary School in Makongeni Thika on May 1st
2019.
“The girls’ parents reported of their missing daughters on
May 2nd and following intense investigations by our officers, they
were traced at the suspect’s house in Kiandutu. We laid a trap to nab him and
when the police arrived at his house, he immediately drew a gun but was hit by
our officers and fatally injured,” explained the Kiambu police boss.
He added that the suspect has been on the run and on the
police “wanted list” regarding to several robbery and criminal incidents in the
area.
