Matatu driver nursing injuries after thug attack in Witeithie estate.
A matatu driver is nursing facial and body injuries after he
was attacked and robbed by a gang of about five youth in Witeithie estate.
Josephat Maina Wamai, a driver with the TWN 14-seater
matatus, was waylaid as he walked home after close of business at around 11pm
on Saturday night.
In the incident, he lost all the money he had, his cell
phone, some valuables and personal documents.
In the past few months, Witeithie estate has been in the
headlines for all the wrong reasons.
In a span of only one week, there has been seven reported
cases of brutal murders.
On Wednesday this week, the body of a middle-aged man was found dumped near
the Mang'u High School footbridge; just a few metres off Thika superhighway with
multiple knife stab injuries on his head and face.

A
few days earlier, a decapitated body of a middle-aged woman was collected at
the railway bridge under similar circumstances with yet another woman murdered
earlier within the estate.
There
have been numerous reports of muggings and housebreak robberies in the area
with residents expressing their concerns over the runaway insecurity.
Some
of those we talked to claim that most of these incidents go unreported as the
victims are usually forewarned by these thugs that in case they reported, they would
be “finished”.
“Most
of these thugs are known even to the authorities and when they attack you, they
warn you not to dare report them or else ‘utaona chamtema kuni. Therefore, the only
incidents that come out in public are those that result in deaths,” explained
one of the residents who requested for anonymity for fear of falling victim to
these gangs.
