Two killed in early morning crash on Thika–Garissa Highway
Two people died on the spot in a tragic accident early Friday morning near Metrofil Petrol Station along the Thika–Garissa Highway.
The crash happened shortly after 3am when a Toyota Alphard collided head-on with a truck.
The Alphard’s driver died instantly as the vehicle’s front was completely destroyed as the truck overturned and landed on its side by the roadside.
Moments later, another truck approaching the scene tried to avoid the wreckage. In the process, it lost control and veered off the road, hitting and killing a pedestrian who had stopped nearby to witness the earlier accident.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as devastating, with the two deaths happening in quick succession.
“We were still looking at the first accident when suddenly another life was gone,” one witness said.
Traffic officers from Thika Police Station, assisted by prison officers, arrived quickly to clear the scene and restore traffic flow.
The bodies were moved to General Kago Road Funeral Home.
The Thika–Garissa Highway has been marked as one of the high-risk roads in the region, with frequent accidents blamed on speeding, fatigue and poor visibility at night.
