Ruto: I Will Not Succumb to ‘One-Term’ Blackmail

President William Ruto vows to stay the course, telling critics he won’t be swayed by ‘one-term’ blackmail
President William Ruto has hit back at critics calling for him to serve only one term, declaring that he will not be swayed by political threats or intimidation.

Speaking during the Nairobi County Empowerment Programme at State House, Nairobi, Ruto said the so-called “one-term” chants from some political opponents are nothing more than blackmail aimed at derailing his development agenda.

“Wale majamaa wanajaribu kunitisha na one-term, nawaambia, we will not succumb to the blackmail, threats of one-term. We are committed to transforming our country,” the President said, urging Kenyans to judge him based on his performance in 2027 rather than on political rhetoric.

The Head of State defended his administration’s flagship Hustler Fund, saying it had disbursed over Ksh 72 billion to more than 26 million Kenyans, with Ksh 5 billion mobilized in savings. He noted that the initiative had given many small businesses access to affordable credit, stimulating grassroots economic growth.

Ruto’s remarks come amid growing opposition pressure and rising popularity of the “one-term” slogan, which critics have used to question his leadership. He, however, insisted that only the will of the people at the ballot box would determine his political future.

The President’s stance was echoed by Azimio leader Raila Odinga, who recently urged Kenyans to give the current administration time to deliver on its promises before passing judgment in the next election.

Ruto reaffirmed his commitment to implementing his manifesto, saying his focus remains on transforming the country’s economy, improving livelihoods, and ensuring that government projects reach all regions.
