President Ruto Vows Free Outpatient Services in Kiambu, Warns Against Unauthorized Charges

President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering free outpatient healthcare services in Kiambu County, warning local health facilities against charging patients for services covered under the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program.

Addressing congregations in Kiambu on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the President stated that all Level 1 to 3 hospitals, including sub-county facilities, should offer free outpatient services to Kenyans registered with the Social Health Insurance. He stressed that the national government would cater for these costs, ensuring no citizen is denied medical attention due to inability to pay.

“I want to be clear no Kenyan registered under the Social Health Insurance should be asked to pay for outpatient care in these facilities,” Ruto declared. “This government is committed to making healthcare affordable and accessible for all.”

In a stern message to Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi, the Head of State urged strict adherence to the UHC policy, saying it is a key pillar of his administration’s development agenda.

Beyond healthcare, President Ruto also highlighted major infrastructure investments in the county, revealing that Ksh.40 billion has been allocated to road projects aimed at boosting trade, mobility, and economic growth. He assured residents that his government will move swiftly to complete stalled development projects across the county.

The President’s visit underscored his focus on both social welfare and infrastructural transformation, signaling continued government efforts to improve the quality of life for Kenyans.
