Police Launch Probe into Defilement, Murder of 12-Year-Old Girl in Ol Kalou
Police in Nyandarua County have launched investigations into the brutal defilement and killing of a 12-year-old girl in Ol Kalou.
The minor, who had been reported missing on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, was found dead the following day on her grandfather’s farm. According to family members, she had left home to purchase sugar and flour to prepare porridge for her mother, who had just given birth and was hospitalized.
Her grandfather, James Thiong’o, told reporters that the family began searching for her when she failed to return home. “We were shocked to find her body the next day. This is a painful loss for us,” he said.
A shopkeeper in the area, Jane Wanjiru, recalled the girl buying rice worth KSh60, two pens, and a sweet, before heading off in search of uji flour from another vendor. That was the last time she was seen alive.
Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed that initial findings point to both defilement and murder. Officers from Ol Kalou Police Station visited the scene and moved the body to a nearby funeral home pending a post-mortem examination.
“We have opened a serious investigation into this incident and are following critical leads. We will ensure the perpetrator is brought to justice,” Cherono said.
No arrests have been made so far, but police are pursuing forensic and witness-based evidence to track down the suspect.
The incident has shocked the Ol Kalou community, with residents calling for increased security and protection for children, especially in rural areas.
