Kings Orchid AHP in Thika will be a vibrant home and a catalyst for community growth – PS Hinga
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to transforming urban housing through the Affordable Housing Programme (AHP), with the Kings Orchid project in Thika Town being highlighted as a model of modern, secure and sustainable living.
Principal Secretary for Housing and Urban Development Charles Hinga Mwaura said the development, located on the site of the former Government Quarters, is not only delivering quality homes but also creating jobs and stimulating the local economy.
“The Kings Orchid project is a demonstration of how affordable housing can address the needs of ordinary Kenyans while driving local growth. We are building secure, modern and well-planned homes that will uplift communities,” Mr. Hinga stated.
Launched in August 2023, the development has already provided employment opportunities to 400 unskilled workers, 200 skilled workers and 11 trainees from local technical institutions, alongside four engineers overseeing implementation. This, the PS noted, underscores the government’s vision of using housing as a vehicle for both social and economic transformation.
The project comprises four residential blocks offering a total of 975 units, including shops and studio apartments. Residents will benefit from green spaces, secure boundary walls, cabro-paved driveways, a borehole, community hall, children’s play areas, Wi-Fi connectivity and integrated retail and office spaces.
Strategically located within easy reach of public institutions, healthcare facilities, sports amenities and major transport routes, Kings Orchid is positioned to become a vibrant neighbourhood for growing families. Mr. Hinga emphasised that the development reflects the government’s broader vision of inclusive urban planning that enhances quality of life while supporting Kenya’s housing agenda.
“This is more than housing—it is about building communities, creating opportunities and ensuring every Kenyan has a dignified place to call home,” the PS said.
