A Section of Thika Road, among key routes closed for Harambee Stars' CHAN Opener at Kasarani
Motorists in Nairobi are set to face temporary road closures this Sunday, August 3, as Kenya kicks off its African Nations Championship (CHAN) campaign against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the Kasarani Stadium.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) announced that sections of Lang’ata Road and Thika Superhighway, among other major roads, will be closed or partially restricted to ease traffic flow and enhance security around the stadium.
Roads Affected:
Lang’ata Road: One side of the road between Madaraka roundabout and Lusaka roundabout will be closed.
Mombasa Road: One side between Lusaka roundabout and Bunyala Road roundabout will be closed.
Aerodrome Road: This entire stretch, between Lusaka and Bunyala roundabouts, will be completely inaccessible to motorists.
Alternative Routes:
Vehicles headed to Kasarani Stadium should use Ruaraka–Baba Dogo Road and Ngomongo Road via Ngomongo Roundabout.
Motorists from Thika Road are advised to use Eastern Bypass, Limuru Road or Kiambu Road.
Drivers from the CBD heading towards Thika, Ruiru or Juja will be redirected to Limuru or Kiambu Roads.
Motorists from Mombasa Road to the CBD should use Likoni–Enterprise Road near General Motors or take the Southern Bypass via Ole Sereni Hotel.
The CHAN tournament, which runs from August 2 to August 30, marks a significant milestone as Kenya hosts its first major international football competition. Matches will be held at Kasarani Stadium and Nyayo Stadium.
Excitement is building as fans prepare to fill Kasarani for the opening clash between Harambee Stars and DRC. Kenya will also face Angola (August 7), Morocco (August 10), and Zambia (August 17), all at the same venue.
Motorists are advised to plan their travel early and follow police directions to avoid inconvenience.
