Two residents from Kiambu County have petitioned The Senate
to compel Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi to relocate his office from Nairobi
to Kiambu Town which is the designated county headquarters.
In their plea to the house, the petitioners claim that the
residents of the 12 sub-counties within Kiambu have been inconvenienced for not
knowing the location of his office.
“Kiambu citizens who seek the services of the senator are inconvenienced
due to the long distance and financial costs involved,” reads the petition that
was received and signed by the Clerk to the Senate on March 6.
Quoting Chapter 4 Article 35 (a) of the Kenyan Constitution
which gives citizens the right to information, their prayer to Senate is to have
the house investigate the criteria or policy framework that can be used to
relocate the office of Senator from Nairobi to Kiambu town and in accordance to
the said provision, relocate that office to the county headquarters forthwith.
The petition was presented by a resident who refers himself
as Analyst Wamalwa.
“For better service delivery the office of the senator
should be in his area of representation. His office will come to Kiambu. He was
elected to serve not to hide. From 2013 to 2017 no one knew where his office
was, that cannot go on to 2022. We will follow up until the office is in Kiambu,”
said Wamalwa in his Facebook post yesterday.
