Kiambu County Assembly on Tuesday passed two Bills; The
Alcoholic Drinks Control Amendment Bill and the Kiambu County Water and
Sanitation Bill.
The Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill seeks to regulate the
manufacture and sale of alcohol in the region. It has guidelines on licensing
of brewers and control of illicit brews in the county.
Former Naivasha Member of Parliament Hon. John Mututho paid
a courtesy call to the Speaker Hon. Stephen Ndicho who had chaired the plenary
sessions.
Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has declared war on
alcoholism in the county and has vowed to eliminate all dangerous alcoholic
drinks from being sold to our innocent men and women.
Waititu has warned that dangerous drinks sellers will not
get a space in the county to operate and asked them to leave the county.
The second bill will be key in addressing matters water
and Sewerage where it creates the establishment of Kiambu County Water, Sewerage
and Sanitation Company, merging all the 12 water companies into one umbrella.
The new company will acquire all assets and liabilities of
the former companies.
Waititu’s plan to dissolve water companies in Kiambu had
previously sparked dispute with a section of residents terming it as
ill-informed.
However, the governor’s resolve was unstoppable branding
those opposing the plans as cartels who have been running water business in the
region. According to him, the move was aimed at improving
service delivery.
