Urithi Housing Cooperative Society Limited has commissioned
its panorama project in Gatanga Sub-County of Murang'a.
While unveiling the mega project, Chairman Samuel Maina said
that society members had purchased the 104 acre land to the tune of Kshs. 1
billion.
He said the society had already developed appropriate
infrastructure such as roads and electricity and had fenced off the land ready
for commencement of erecting houses. He added that the land neighboured upmarket
developments among them the Thika Greens Golf Estate.
The project is barely 5 km from Thika Town.
Maina said construction of houses and other public
facilities will commence soon, enabling members and other inventors to own
houses in the gated community set-up. He appealed to the members to supplement the
society’s efforts in developing the project and pleaded with cooperatives
to shun politics and instead underscore members’ interests.
“At Urithi, the shareholders are key and we directly work
with them. We ensure that they understand and embrace our models,” said the
chairman.
“Societies are now running smoothly, because of the absence of
politics as was the case before. Investment and politics don’t mix,” he
said.

He added that they were committed to supplementing the government’s efforts of providing 200,000 affordable housing units to Kenyans saying that Panorama Project alone would provide over 500 units.
