Raila Operating On A Script Similar To That Of 2007, Says Thika Aspirant.

Thika Town Constituency Parliamentary seat aspirant Eng. Patrick Wainaina Wa Jungle has warned that resent sentiments by opposition and ODM presidential candidate Raila Amolo Odinga was a scheme to prepare his supporters for chaos in August.

While launching Jungle Foundation 'HAPA KAZI TU!' Street lighting project in Kiganjo, Wainaina argued that the opposition had already sensed defeat, Wainaina said that this was the reason that they were putting up one hurdle after another against the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the electoral process.

“Having an alternative tallying station goes against our constitution and is in fact a recipe for chaos. The law only mandates the IEBC to count, tally and declare election results. As leaders, we are therefore expected to strictly conform to the constitutional provisions,” said Wainaina.

He dismissed calls by the National Super Alliance (NASA) team to deploy 50 youth in every polling station as election ‘monitors’ as a recipe for skirmishes adding that all political players were well represented in the electoral process and could only access every detail within the framework established by the IEBC.

“What do you expect if everyone was allowed to tally and announce their own results?  If allowed, everyone will announce themselves winners and the result of this will be mayhem and bloodshed. We cannot allow this in a civilised democracy like ours,” he said.

He reckoned that events preceding the 2007-8 post elections started in a similar manner and this trend should never be allowed to shape in 2017.

Speaking at a rally in Kibera on Sunday, Raila Odinga said NASA would announce its own results in the August polls as part of efforts to prevent rigging. He said agents would scan the result documents and relay them in real time once they are announced at every polling station by the IEBC officials.
Wainaina called on the youth to refuse to be misused by politicians for political expediency saying that they should demand from them their youth agenda.

“As the youth of this country, you have suffered for quite a long time. This is the time to put an end to this suffering and the only way you (youth) can emancipate yourself from political slavery is by demanding politicians to lay down their agenda for youth and development. You got to demand politicians to compete on their development agenda and not who can best propagate falsehoods and propaganda,” said Wainaina.

He encouraged Thika residents to continue registering as Jubilee Party members via SMS 30553 as only registered party members will be allowed to take part in the party’s primaries set for the 21st of this month.

“The Deadline for JP online registration is 10th April. Ensure that you have sent your name & ID to 30553. Once you receive a reply from the Jubilee headquarters, please save that SMS with your registration number as you will present it at the polling station on nomination day,” he said.

Wainaina said that he was very optimistic about garnering enough votes to win the Jubilee Party nominations.

“We have no doubts that we are going to win this seat. My team has been very much encouraged by the support of Thika residents. It is beyond our expectations that people would be so enthusiastic,” he said.
