“Your Supporters Are A True Reflection Of Who You Actually Are”, DCC Tells Thika Politicians.

While addressing aspirants vying for various seats within
the district, Anjere pointed out that the supporters always had the blessings
of their masters to actually do whatever they did on their behalf.
“Smart leaders surround themselves with smart people. If
your supporters are hooligans and are fond of hurling insults to your opponents,
you will be perceived as one. You really are only as good as the company you
keep. Whatever they do on your behalf is merely a statement of who you are and
what you actually subscribe to,” said the DCC.
He told them that the trend by some of them was actually a
concern to his security team and the residents of Thika adding that they would
no longer tolerate any more form of noncompliance to the law.
“Some of your actions amount to crime and we won’t just sit
down and watch you break laws or endanger the lives of others in the name of political
supremacy. Some of you really disappointed us by their conduct in front of the
president the other day, forcing him to cut-short his visit to Thika. You gave
our security personnel a hard time, especially in Makongeni where your gangs
were involved in running battles. We cannot have this in a civilized society
like ours,” warned Anjere.
Anjere warned of legal action against anyone who misused the
youth in any way with an intent to cause chaos. He added that they were now going
to zero in on politicians who were fond of printing banners that painted their
competitors negatively, saying that this was a recipe for violent
confrontations.
“We will also use our security intelligence to track down those
spreading hate messages on social media. And in every case, we are going to put
into account both the perpetrators and their leaders,” he said.
Thika DCIO Mbaya Muuru appealed to politicians to avoid
using any word that was tantamount to hate speech as his team would be going
round with gadgets to monitor their speech. He asked each person to play by the
rules otherwise the will end up on the wrong side of the law.
As for the OCPD Thika Erastus Muthamia, his statement was
just brief and straight forward, “Usikubali tukwarusane!” (Don’t step on our
toes).
The meeting addressed some of the concerns that aspirants
had with the whole electioneering exercise within the district with
participants coming up with various strategies that would ensure Thika
experienced violence-free campaigns and voting.
Present at the meeting included Thika Town MP Alice Wambui
Ng’ang’a, MCAs Kennedy Mwangi aka Kentams (Township) and Muthoni Hussein
(Kamenu), majority of the aspirants for various seats and their representatives, plus all members of the Thika West security team.
