Madaraka Trader Sued For Assault At A Thika Court
A Committee Member of Madaraka Market Traders Association, Mary Wamuyu was today (Monday) morning
arraigned in a Thika court charged for assaulting and injuring a fellow trader.
The court was told that on January 25, 2016, Wamuyu assaulted and caused body harm on Stephen Munene Muriithi, during a traders' meeting in Makongeni, Thika.
Appearing before Thika chief magistrate Loise Karingoi, she denied the charges and was released on a Sh20,000 cash bail and a surety of the same amount.
The court heard that Wamuyu attacked Muriithi by hitting him on the ribs, breaking one rib in the process.
Wamuyu, who was represented by Kiama Advocates, asked the court to furnish her with the complainant statement to help her prepare well for her defense.
In solidarity, the courtroom was packed with fellow colleagues who were waiting with abated breath for her release.
Speaking to Thika Town Today after the ruling, Madaraka Market Chairman Ephantus Njeru Ngare defended Wamuyu saying that the alleged attack was untrue. He added that he personally chaired the meeting in question and at no given time did he see Wamuyu attack Mureithi.
Though he did not want to comment much about the case to avoid prejudicing the proceedings, he suspected that this was an attempt to intimidate the traders into withdrawing a previous case they had lodged against the County Government of Kiambu.
The case was adjourned until March 2016.
