ONE DEAD, ANOTHER IN CRITICAL CONDITION AFTER MAKONGENI ACCIDENT.

One person died and another is fighting for his after the Tuktuk they were travelling in was involved in an accident at the busy Thika- Garissa Highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the Tuktuk was heading to Makongeni Estate from Thika Town at around 12 mid night. On arriving at Delta Petrol Station, the Tuktuk driver noticed a large heap of soil dumped and abandoned on his lane by the road contractor doing the pavement along the Garissa Highway. He tried evading to ram onto it by veering onto the lane meant for on-coming vehicles.

Unfortunately for him, a speeding saloon car had already arrived at the same spot making very difficult for any of them to evade a crash. In trying to save his life and that of his client, the Tuktuk driver swayed his automobile to the sides but was too late.

The car hit the Tuktuk on the side killing the passager on the spot. The driver of the Tuktuk was seriously injured, losing consciousness at the scene of the accident. No one in the saloon car was injured but they looked quite shaken by the incident.

The body of the deceased was later taken to General Kago Funeral Home while the injured Tuktuk driver was rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital. When his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital where he is in critical condition.

The vehicles were towed to Makongeni Police Station. Those interviewed blamed the contractor for not clearing the debris or him not placing a warning sign to alert on coming motorists. They called on road users to extra vigilant when using the roads.
