Police in Juja are holding a man who allegedly stabbed his colleague to death after he lost a football bet on Sunday. John Kiragu 23, a resident of Malaba in Juja area, is said to have been watching the match with the deceased, Austin Mwendwa when they agreed on an unspecified amount of money for whoever's team won.
Witnesses say the two watched the game calmly until when Kiragu decided to walk out after realising his team was on the verge of losing.

According to the bar operator, the Mwendwa demanded immediate payment from Kiragu who allegedly produced a knife from his waist and stabbed him on the chest and stomach severally. The incident left the deceased bleeding on the roadside as the culprit ran for his life after an irate mob rushed after him baying for his blood.

The police arrived at the scene immediately and took the body to Thika General Kago Mortuary and arrested the alleged attacker hiding near a stream.

According to Juja OCS Luke Odwuor, the man is set to appear in court on Monday to face murder charges. He has further cautioned residents against betting citing disagreements that result from the activity.
