EMBRACE GREEN FARMING _ GATUANYAGA MCA
Gatuanyaga Ward MCA Cecilia Wamaitha has asked farmers in her area to
adopt greenhouse farming to increase productivity and returns.
Addressing Munyu farmers when she visited women groups that have been practising greenhouse farming in the area on Wednesday, Wamaitha said greenhouse farming was the way to go.
"This area receives minimal rainfall as compared to other parts of Kiambu County. That means we cannot entirely rely on rainfall to feed ourselves and get something to sell. We need greenhouse farming that does not rely on weather patterns," said Wamaitha.
Wamaitha who is also the minority leader in the Kiambu County Assembly said she would push the county government to provide greenhouse construction materials to farmers as well as drill more boreholes in the area to provide them with irrigation water.
She lauded the women for the initiative which now enables them to grow food and cash crops throughout the year irrespective of the weather patterns.
