Motorists in Nairobi are set to experience traffic disruptions after the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) announced the partial closure of several major roads to facilitate ongoing infrastructure projects across the city.
According to KURA, a section of Ngong Road between Windy Ridge and Westwood Park Road in Karen will be partially closed for one week starting June 11, 2026. The closure is intended to allow contractors to install twin cross culverts as part of road improvement works.
The authority has also announced the partial closure of sections of Kenyatta Avenue, Valley Road, and Jakaya Kikwete Road from June 12, 2026, for a period of eight months. The affected roads will undergo bridge construction works aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing urban mobility within the city.
In addition, a section of Haile Selassie Avenue will be partially closed for four months beginning June 12, 2026, to pave the way for the construction of another bridge. The project is expected to improve connectivity and ease congestion along one of Nairobi's busiest transport corridors.
KURA Director General Engineer Silas Kinoti has urged motorists to use alternative routes and follow directions issued by traffic police officers and marshals who will be deployed in the affected areas to manage traffic and ensure the safety of road users.
The road closures form part of the government's broader efforts to upgrade Nairobi's transport infrastructure and enhance mobility within the capital. However, commuters are expected to face temporary inconveniences as construction activities continue over the coming months.
