Detectives Arrest 59-year-old Man Over Fatal Stabbing of Wife in Mwihoko


Detectives in Githurai have arrested a 59-year-old man who had been on the run after allegedly stabbing his wife to death during a domestic dispute in Mwihoko, Kiambu County.

The suspect, identified as Charles Maina Karungae Kibue, is accused of fatally attacking his wife, Elizabeth Wambui, 47, in an incident that occurred on June 14, 2026, at the family's shop in the Delta area of Mwihoko Township.

According to a report filed at Mwihoko Police Station, an altercation broke out between the couple at the shop before escalating into violence. During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed Wambui on the right side of the chest using a spearhead.

Police officers who responded to the scene found Wambui seriously injured and bleeding heavily. She was rushed to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Her body was later transferred to the Kenyatta University Funeral Home, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Crime scene investigators recovered a bloodstained spearhead believed to have been used in the attack. The weapon was collected and secured as evidence to aid ongoing investigations.

Following the incident, the suspect reportedly fled the scene, prompting detectives to launch a manhunt that culminated in his arrest.

Police have not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the domestic dispute, but investigations into the incident are ongoing.

The arrest brings a significant breakthrough in the case as detectives continue piecing together the events that led to the tragic death of Elizabeth Wambui.
