Kenya and France have reaffirmed their long-standing diplomatic partnership following high-level talks between President William Ruto and President Emmanuel Macron at State House Nairobi.

The two leaders highlighted the strong relationship that Kenya and France have maintained since 1963, emphasizing continued cooperation in key sectors aimed at improving the lives of citizens in both countries.

A major highlight of the meeting was the announcement that Kenya will host the Africa Forward Summit marking the first time the summit will be held in a non-Francophone country. The move has been described as a significant indication of the growing trust and strategic partnership between Nairobi and Paris.

During the meeting, the two presidents witnessed the signing of 11 agreements covering major development sectors and economic cooperation.

Among the key agreements is the modernization of the Nairobi Central Station to Embakasi Rail Line 5 project, which is expected to improve urban transport connectivity within the capital. The two countries also agreed to collaborate on the promotion of Kenya’s premium purple tea in international markets.

Other signed agreements focus on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, development of the Masinga Dam project, modernization of meteorological services, and production of sustainable aviation fuel.

The partnership further extends to digital transformation initiatives, expansion of container terminal capacity at Kenyan ports, as well as cooperation in the blue economy and fisheries sector.

President Ruto noted that the agreements reflect a more action-oriented and results-driven partnership between Kenya and France, adding that the collaboration will support Kenya’s development agenda while opening new economic opportunities for both nations.

The strengthening ties between the two countries are expected to boost infrastructure development, trade, innovation, and climate resilience as Kenya continues positioning itself as a key regional economic hub in Africa.
