DCI Arrests Suspect Over Sh. 135 Million Land Title Fraud in Muthaiga
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters’ Land Fraud Investigations Unit (LFIU) have arrested a 60-year-old man linked to a multi-million-shilling land fraud scheme involving prime property in Nairobi.
The suspect, identified as David Ndegwa Mwangi, is accused of fraudulently procuring land titles for three high-value plots located in the exclusive Countryside Villa Estate along Muthaiga Drive. Each parcel is estimated to be worth approximately Sh. 45 million, bringing the total value of the disputed properties to about Sh. 135 million.
According to investigators, the case came to light after the rightful owner raised alarm over attempts by Mwangi and his accomplices, who are still at large, to forcefully take over the properties.
In a bold move, the suspects are said to have physically visited the land and asserted ownership, despite the complainant being in possession of legitimate and authentic title documents.
The incident prompted a detailed investigation by the LFIU, which uncovered evidence pointing to a fraudulent scheme involving the illegal acquisition of title documents.
Following the completion of investigations, the case file was forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). Upon review, the ODPP approved charges against Mwangi and his accomplices for fraudulent procurement of title.
Mwangi has since been arrested and is currently in custody, undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.
Meanwhile, detectives have intensified efforts to track down the remaining suspects believed to be part of the scheme.
