NYS Announces Nationwide Recruitment Exercise for Volunteer Servicemen and Women

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a
nationwide recruitment exercise for volunteer servicemen and women scheduled to
run from Monday, March 16 to Saturday, March 21, 2026, across all sub-counties
in the country.
The recruitment exercise will begin daily at 8:00 a.m. at
designated centres, where applicants will undergo verification and selection.
The programme seeks to enlist young Kenyans into the NYS,
where they will undergo paramilitary training, discipline development,
technical training and national service programmes aimed at equipping youth
with skills for employment and nation-building.

Recruitment for all Nairobi sub-counties will take place on Friday, March 20, 2026, beginning at 8:00am at: NYS Headquarters, Ruaraka Play Ground.

Interested applicants must meet the following requirements:
• Be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 24 years
• Be residents of the respective sub-county of recruitment
• Possess a minimum KCSE grade of D (Plain)
• Produce original National Identity Card and academic certificates and submit photocopies
• Have no criminal record
• Be physically and medically fit
• Be willing to undergo NYS paramilitary training
Successful applicants will report to the NYS Paramilitary
Academy in Gilgil or the NYS Technical Training Institute (NYSTTI) in Naivasha
as indicated in their admission letters.
Persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply,
provided they meet the physical requirements of the programme. Applicants with sports
skills and talents will have an added advantage.
Required Documents
Applicants must present:
• Original National ID card and photocopy
• Academic certificates and testimonials
• NYS discharge certificate (for previous NYS graduates) with a minimum conduct rating of “Good”
Orphans who meet the requirements will receive special
consideration upon presentation of valid documentation such as parents’ death
certificates or burial permits.
The service warned that canvassing, bribery or offering
monetary or other inducements during recruitment is an offence that will lead
to automatic disqualification and possible prosecution under the NYS Act.
