Police in Witeithie Rescue a 9-Year-Old Boy Found Locked, Abused by Step-parents

A nine-year-old Grade Four pupil was rushed to the hospital after being rescued by police in Witeithie, following a swift intervention by vigilant residents and village elders.

The incident came to light after neighbours grew concerned about the child’s prolonged absence and unusual silence from a rented house where he lived with his step-parents. Working with village elders, the residents alerted police, prompting immediate action by the officers led by Witeithie OCS Chief Inspector Hussein Mohamed.

Their attempts to reach the child’s guardians were unsuccessful, prompting the police to break into the house to free the innocent minor.

The boy was in a critical condition, weak, severely dehydrated and bearing visible signs of fresh injuries, which police say pointed to prolonged mistreatment. The child was immediately rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention.

The minor told officers that he had been subjected to repeated abuse by his step-parents, deepening concerns over the extent of the ordeal he had endured.

Police strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a grave case of child abuse. Authorities said investigations are ongoing and assured the public that those responsible will be arrested and charged.

The incident has once again highlighted the crucial role of community vigilance, with police urging residents to continue reporting suspected cases of child neglect and abuse to prevent further harm.
