Mob Kills Armed Suspect in Thika; Police Recover Lost G3 Rifle
Police in Kiambu County are investigating an incident in the Magana area of Thika East Sub-County where a suspect was fatally injured by members of the public, leading to the recovery of a police firearm reported missing in an earlier case.
According to authorities, the incident began when members of the public confronted an individual they believed to be armed. The situation escalated, resulting in the suspect being fatally injured before police could intervene.
Officers from Munyu Police Station were notified and rushed to the scene. A search of the area led to the recovery of a G3 rifle, two magazines, 68 rounds of 7.62x51mm ammunition, blank rounds, a penknife and other items. All recovered materials were secured and taken into police custody for forensic and ballistic examination.
Preliminary investigations suggest the G3 rifle is linked to a previous incident involving the loss of a police firearm within the same Sub-County. Detectives are now working to establish how the weapon changed hands and the events that preceded the confrontation.
