Civil Servant Arrested in Thika Over Alleged Forgery Scheme

Detectives have arrested one Maroa Sammy Maroa in Ngoingwa area of Thika West Sub-County over allegations of forging official government documents.

Sammy, an economist attached to the State Department for Cabinet Affairs, is accused of running a parallel life, one in government service and another in which he allegedly fabricated documents to influence high-level decisions. According to the investigators, his latest attempt involved crafting a forged letter purportedly approved by a senior government official.

The police say that he personally delivered the letter to the CEO of the National Police Service Commission (NPSC), presenting a list of individuals he claimed were “state-recommended candidates” for police recruitment. His confidence, however, did little to disguise inconsistencies that immediately raised suspicion.

Preliminary findings suggest this was not his first encounter with the law. Sammy is currently under suspension over an earlier case before the Kahawa Law Courts, where he is accused of forging another letter, this time to promote himself to the position of Director and transfer himself to the State Department for Housing.

When detectives intensified their search, Sammy reportedly went off the grid, switching off all known contacts in an attempt to evade arrest. However, investigative teams followed a trail of intelligence leads that eventually led them to his hideout in Thika.

He was taken into custody and moved to a police facility, where he is being held as investigators prepare to forward his case for legal action.
