Laikipia University Alumni Association calls for swift resolution to ongoing education strike

The Laikipia University Alumni Association has voiced concern over the ongoing strike in Kenya’s education sector, which has disrupted learning and affected students nationwide.

While recognising the right of education professionals to advocate for better terms, the Association urges all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue with the Ministry of Education to reach a swift and amicable resolution.

The statement notes that prolonged industrial action not only hampers students’ academic progress but also undermines the overall quality of education. It adds that the strike has placed a financial strain on parents, who are forced to bear additional expenses to support their children during this period. 

Furthermore, the disruption delays students’ completion of studies, hindering their career growth and personal development.

Jesse Ndegwa, Chairman of the Laikipia University Alumni Association, emphasised the importance of restoring normalcy in the education sector:

“Education is the cornerstone of national development. We call upon the Ministry of Education and all relevant stakeholders to prioritize negotiations that restore learning and safeguard the interests of both educators and students.”

The Alumni Association reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen Kenya’s education system and called for balanced solutions that uphold both the welfare of teachers and the right of students to uninterrupted learning.
