Tragic Domestic Dispute Ends in Double Death in Machakos

 

A domestic dispute in Machakos County ended in a shocking double tragedy after a man fatally attacked his wife before reportedly taking his own life.

The incident happened in Kithiani area, Matuu, where the couple is said to have engaged in a heated altercation that quickly turned violent. Police say the man stabbed his wife multiple times, leaving her critically injured.

“She was rushed to Matuu Level 4 Hospital but unfortunately succumbed while undergoing treatment,” Yatta Sub-County Police Commander

Mary Njoki said.

Officers launched a search for the suspect who had fled moments after the attack. He was later discovered dead near their homestead.

“Preliminary findings suggest the suspect may have taken his life after the incident,” Njoki added. “We are treating this as a murder-suicide pending full investigations.”

Neighbours informed authorities that the couple had been embroiled in recurring disagreements, though the motive behind the latest dispute remains unclear.

Police have moved both bodies to the Matuu Level 4 Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations and further forensic analysis.

Commander Njoki urged residents facing domestic challenges to seek help early rather than allow disputes to escalate into violence.

“We encourage couples experiencing conflict to reach out to local leaders, counsellors, or even the police for mediation,” she said. “No life should be lost due to preventable disputes.”

Investigations are ongoing, and officers are calling on anyone with additional information to come forward.
