Family and Friends Hold Heartfelt Memorial for Journalist Kimani Mbugua

Family, friends, and colleagues gathered on Sunday evening to honour the life and legacy of the late Kimani Mbugua, a talented journalist whose storytelling and vibrant personality left a lasting mark on Kenya’s media landscape.

The emotional memorial service, which included a candle-lighting ceremony, brought together those who knew Kimani closely. They reflected on his passion for journalism, his drive to succeed and the joy he brought to every space he occupied.

Kimani’s father, Dedan Kimathi, a lecturer at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), spoke fondly of their unbreakable father-son bond, describing Kimani as a brilliant mind with a bright future ahead.

Colleagues from Moi University, led by Shem Ouma and Milkah Ngari, recalled his unmatched determination and leadership, remembering him as someone who always worked ahead of the curve and inspired those around him.

Former NCCK General Secretary, Rev. Canon Peter Karanja, who is also a neighbour to the family in Juja, offered heartfelt condolences, noting the strong connection Kimani shared with his father from a young age.

Members of ADA Church, where Kimani’s father serves as an elder, comforted the family through uplifting songs and humorous memories that captured Kimani’s spirited nature and love for people.

The memorial ceremony, held outside Shuhan Hotel, concluded with attendees lighting candles in his honour, a symbolic tribute to the light Kimani shone during his 29 years of life.

Kimani Mbugua will be laid to rest tomorrow, Tuesday, at his father’s rural home in Mugumoini Village, Maragwa, Murang’a County.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
