Super Metro condemns burning of bus in Juja after bodaboda accident

The management of Super Metro Sacco has condemned the burning of one of its 33-seater buses worth Ksh 6.5 million by irate bodaboda riders near Juja City Mall along the Thika Superhighway.

According to Sacco chairman Nelson Mwangi, the bus was not directly involved in the accident that claimed the life of a bodaboda rider. He described the torching of the vehicle as a criminal act and urged security agencies to take stern action against those involved.

Juja Sub-County Transport Chairperson, Jackson Wamae, decried the huge economic loss, stressing the need for road users to avoid taking the law into their own hands whenever accidents occur.

An eyewitness, Moses Lunalo, who is also a bodaboda rider, said the deceased had overtaken him at high speed before colliding with a tuk-tuk. In an attempt to regain control, he veered off the road and was knocked down by the Super Metro bus trailing behind, dying instantly.

Juja Sub-County Police Commander Bernard Ngungu confirmed the incident, noting that both the motorcycle and bus were traveling in the same direction along the service lane when the rider lost control and was hit.

Ngungu added that police officers who arrived at the scene were confronted by angry bodaboda riders who demanded that the bus driver be punished immediately. However, the driver managed to escape to safety. The commander condemned the retaliatory attack and assured that firm action would be taken against the perpetrators.

The charred remains of the bus are currently at Juja Police Station as investigations continue.
