Residents of Thika town woke up to shock and disbelief on Thursday morning after the body of an unidentified man was discovered dumped along the fence of Thika Police Station.
The half-dressed body, which bore visible injuries, was spotted at around 7am by passersby heading to work. Word of the grim discovery quickly spread through the town, drawing curious onlookers to the scene.
Local cyclist Egron Wainaina told reporters he first learned of the incident from residents he ferried on his bicycle.
“It looks like the man was beaten to unconsciousness before being abandoned here,” Wainaina observed, shaking his head in disbelief.
The discovery has stirred unease among locals, many of whom voiced concern over rising insecurity in the area.
“Nothing is worth taking someone’s life. We are appealing to police to intensify surveillance and patrols to prevent such incidents,” said Moses Ekaporon, a long-time resident of Thika.
Police later moved the body to the General Kago Funeral Home, where it awaits identification and a postmortem examination.
Confirming the incident, Thika Sub-county Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi described the case as “isolated,” but assured residents that investigations were underway and a manhunt for the culprits had been launched.
“The killers dumped the body here, but we remain committed to safeguarding the lives and property of our people,” Muchangi said, urging members of the public to help identify the deceased.
