A man died instantly on Saturday morning after reportedly jumping from the Juja flyover onto the Thika Superhighway, sustaining fatal head injuries in what witnesses described as a deliberate act.
According to eyewitnesses, the unidentified man arrived at the flyover on a motorcycle, paid the rider, and briefly stood on the overpass before leaping onto the busy highway below. Motorists and pedestrians nearby said he appeared to make sure no one was watching him before he jumped.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the man was pronounced dead at the spot due to the severity of his injuries. Police officers later moved the body to a local mortuary as investigations into the incident got underway.
Authorities are yet to release the man’s identity or details of what may have driven him to take his life. Investigators are expected to review CCTV footage, speak to witnesses, and trace the motorcycle rider who dropped him off.
The incident caused shock among residents and road users, who noted that the Juja section of the Thika Superhighway has witnessed several tragedies in the past, ranging from road crashes to suicide attempts.
Mental-health experts have urged the public to be more vigilant and to reach out to friends, colleagues, or family members who may be struggling.
