Kenya Meat Commission opens new branch, announces further expansion to Thika and other towns

The Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) has taken another giant leap in its nationwide expansion drive with the official opening of a new branch in Kitengela, a move that cements its resolve to decentralise services and bring quality meat products closer to Kenyans.

The launch signals more than just the cutting of a ribbon; it marks a strategic milestone in strengthening the livestock value chain, empowering farmers with a guaranteed market, and assuring consumers of affordable, nutritious, and authentic meat.

Speaking during the grand opening, KMC Managing Commissioner Major General Gula Jattani reiterated the Commission’s unwavering commitment to serving both farmers and consumers.

“This new branch demonstrates our dedication to empowering livestock farmers by guaranteeing them a ready market, while also ensuring that Kenyans have access to affordable, nutritious, legit, and high-quality meat products,” he said.

The Kitengela facility is designed to be a one-stop hub, offering livestock procurement, modern meat processing, retail sales, and large-scale distribution to institutional clients. Beyond food security, the branch is also expected to inject fresh economic activity into the region through job creation and business opportunities.

Since September 2020, when the government entrusted KMC’s management to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the Commission has been undergoing a sweeping transformation. The reforms, from modernising facilities and tightening supply chains to reclaiming export markets, have revitalised the once-struggling parastatal. Efficiency, transparency, and accountability now define its operations.

And this is only the beginning. Under the Ministry of Defence, KMC has its sights firmly set on expansion. New branches are lined up for Rongai, Syokimau, Thika and the Nairobi CBD.

Along the coast, the Makupa outlet in Mombasa will soon be joined by two more in Mtwapa and Likoni, with the ambitious target of generating more than KSh. 50 million in revenue.

With the Kitengela branch now open, the Kenya Meat Commission has sent a clear signal: the era of dependable, accessible, and high-quality meat for all Kenyans is here.
