MP on the Run? Court Issues Arrest Warrant in Alleged Self-Abduction Case
Nairobi, July 16, 2025
A Nairobi court has issued a warrant of arrest against Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi after he failed to appear for arraignment in connection with a controversial case involving an alleged staged abduction.
The lawmaker is accused of conspiring with several individuals to fake his own kidnapping in an effort to obstruct justice, ahead of a scheduled court appearance in Kiambu over land fraud charges.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Ben Mark Ekhubi, four individuals linked to the alleged scheme, including Kanyenya-ini Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Grace Nduta Wairimu, all pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defeat the course of justice, contrary to Section 117(c) of the Penal Code.
The prosecution told the court that on May 25, 2025, in Mugutha area, Juja Sub-County, Koimburi, along with Peter Kiratu Muhia, David Macharia Gatana, Cyrus Keriu Muhia and Grace Nduta Wairimu, staged a fake abduction aimed at preventing the MP’s imminent arrest and arraignment in a separate land fraud case.
Peter Kiratu Muhia faces additional charges of giving false information to a public officer and publishing false information. It is alleged that he reported the staged abduction at Mugutha Police Station, misleading police officers and triggering a response based on fabricated claims.
Warrants of arrest were also issued for Koimburi and two other accused persons who failed to appear in court.
Magistrate Ekhubi granted bail of KSh. 300,000 to the four accused who appeared, with a condition that each provides three contact persons as sureties.
The case is scheduled for mention on August 5, 2025.
