CS Mutua Launches Crackdown on Fake Overseas Job Recruiters, Victims Asked to Come Forward

Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection, Dr. Alfred Mutua, has announced the formation of a Multi-Agency Taskforce to combat fraudulent recruitment agents preying on Kenyans seeking overseas employment.

Speaking after a high-level meeting with key institutions including the Attorney General, DPP, DCI and the National Employment Authority, Dr. Mutua expressed concern over the rising cases of con artists posing as licensed job recruiters, only to vanish with victims’ money.

He said the new taskforce will include agencies such as the DCI, ODPP, Asset Recovery, FRC, Immigration, Diaspora Affairs and others. It will be housed at a One-Stop Centre at NSSF Building, Block C, 7th Floor, open daily from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, starting 15th July 2025.

The CS noted that the centre aims to fast-track investigations, harmonize prosecutions, and stop delays that allow fraudsters to walk free. He warned that no one would hide behind company names and that all individuals involved, including directors, brokers and collaborators, will be held personally accountable.

He urged affected Kenyans to report their cases, especially if they paid for jobs abroad that never materialised after 6–8 months. Victims should bring payment records and related documents to the NSSF offices starting 17th July.

Dr. Mutua reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safe and legal labour migration, saying the integrity of Kenya’s programmes would not be derailed by criminals.
