High Court Halts Impeachment of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo remains in office until further notice from the court.

Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been handed a lifeline after the High Court in Meru declared the impeachment motion against him null and void. The Senate had debated the motion just yesterday, following his earlier impeachment by the Isiolo County Assembly.

Delivering the ruling on Thursday, High Court Judge Heston Nyaga firmly stated that the Senate's actions were in direct violation of a court order that had temporarily halted the process. Justice Nyaga cautioned that any further attempts to advance the impeachment proceedings would be treated as open defiance of the court’s authority.

“This court will not tolerate any act that undermines its authority. Any further step taken in disregard of this ruling will be considered contempt of court, the judge warned.

Governor Guyo had moved to court seeking to stop the impeachment, arguing that due process had not been followed by the County Assembly. His legal team secured interim orders, but the Senate proceeded to debate the matter regardless.

The ruling now places the entire process in limbo, with legal experts saying the Senate may be forced to either challenge the decision in a higher court or abandon the process altogether.

The County Assembly had accused Governor Guyo of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violation of the Constitution claims he has strongly denied.

As it stands, the impeachment process has hit a legal wall, and Governor Guyo remains in office until further notice from the court.
