Thika poised to get 60Km of road infrastructure upgrades
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has a consultative meeting with a delegation from the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to discuss infrastructure improvements in Thika as we progress toward transforming the town into an Industrial Smart City.The delegation led by Senior Engineer Ephraim Obuollah said that the authority plans to improve approximately 60 Kilometres of roads within the Thika cluster.
A feasibility study, along with an environmental and social impact report, has already been completed for the projects aimed at easing congestion and improving mobility within the town.
Currently the team is working on designs, after which public consultations will be conducted before the projects commence.
Among the roads set for dualing within Thika Town and its environs are Haile Selassie-Upper Highway, Upper Road Roundabout-General Kago Road, Magoko-Kenyatta Avenue Road, Kenyatta Highway through East Africa Paper Mills, Zero Gravity Distilleries to the A3 Road, and the A2/A3 Junction to Kilimambogo.
Others include Magoko-Upper Road Junction to Thika Bypass Road and Slip Road at Castle Breweries. The section of highway from Thika to Kenol Town is set to get an additional lane in both directions, while improvements are proposed for the Blue Post-Gatanga Road.
Upgrades are also planned for the Garissa Road-Thika Bypass intersection near BAT Thika, the section of highway near Thika Sports Club and the Del Monte junction.
The governor urged KeNHA to consider upgrading roads along the Kilimambogo-Witeithie-Juja Farm route and Gatuanyaga-Juja Road circuit.
