Government refutes claims that relief food distributed is unsafe

Juja Sub-County DCC Charles Muriithi has refuted malicious falsehood being peddled by a Kiambu Gubernatorial aspirant that relief food being dished out by the government is contaminated with breast cancer.

Speaking at a baraza held at Gachororo in Juja, Muriithi said the government cannot kill its people. He said the food is very safe for human consumption. “The government cannot kill its people,” said the administrator.

The aspirant had gone around the Sub-County saying the relief food was contaminated and would result in breast cancer.

“The food is safe for human consumption. Ignore the falsehood being fanned by the said propagandist. You should ask him to bring his own supply if he feels the food being distributed to the vulnerable members of the society is contaminated,” Muriithi said.

The administrator asked residents to help the government fight criminal activities in the area including sale and consumption of illicit brews and drugs. Mt Kenya NACADA Regional Manager Amos Warui decried the mushrooming of liquor outlets in the area. He regretted that licenses were being issued politically.

He said it was wrong to operate wines and spirits/bars in residential plots. He urged the county government to regulate issuance of the above licenses. He supported a call made by Jubilee MCA aspirant Jane Wanjiru Gathiga who called for the putting up of a rehab facility to cater for young Kenyans who have fallen prey to alcohol and drug abuse.

Warui asked parents and guardians to guide and protect their children from plunging into alcohol and drug abuse.

He reiterated that hard drugs like heroin and cocaine had found their way into the Sub-County and peddlers were targeting college/varsity students. Gathiga urged area residents to elect her on Jubilee ticket since she had been brought up in the area and was therefore the most suitable candidate for the seat because she understood the problems that faces the area and would look for their solutions.
