Man who smashed son to death in Kihumbuini, detained for 14 days

A Kandara Court has detained 23-year old Mark Njuguna for 14 days over the murder of his 4-months old son at Kihumbuini in Gatanga, Murang'a County on Tuesday night.

Njuguna allegedly killed his son by smashing him on the floor following a domestic quarrel with his wife after suspecting that the child was not his biological son.

Kandara Principal Magistrate Eric Mutunga granted the prosecution consent to have the accused detained pending witness statements and autopsy.

The preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect quarreled with his wife at around 1:30am before attacking her. He then forced her to sit on the floor before grabbing the baby and hit his forehead on the concrete floor.

At was at that moment that she managed to dash out of the house, ran to her father-in-law’s house and informed him of what had transpired.

Neighbours who came to answer her distress call found the baby lying in a pool of blood in the sitting room with his head smashed. By this moment, the suspect was seated on a chair, looking so composed and did not resist arrest.

The baby’s body was later taken to General Kago Road Funeral Home in Thika town awaiting post-mortem.

The case will be mentioned on February 9.
