Unknown assassins spray a lone motorist with 90 bullets in Thika.

The murder that occurred barely a few metres away from the Vincentian
Retreat Centre’s gate at around 10pm on Tuesday, is said to have been committed
by about three hooded men who seemed to have trailed the lone motorist from the
Murang’a general direction.
According to our sources, the victim who was driving a white
Mercedes c200 kompressor a KCE, when an unknown vehicle sped and block his way
just after passing the footbridge at Vincentian Retreat Centre, Thika, forcing
him to stop.
It is alleged that immediately after he stopped, three
hooded men sprang out of the second vehicle and sprayed over 90 bullets on both
sides of the vehicle, probably to make sure that he had no chance of survival.
Once they were through with their mission, they jumped into
their vehicle and sped off towards the Nairobi general direction.
Confused motorists along the highway watched from a distance
as the police were called in some minutes later to the scene.
The motive of the murder is yet to be known.
This incident is the latest of a spate of murders that have
dogged Thika for the last few months.
This murder comes barely two weeks after a nurse was shot
dead after unknown assailants waylaid her and her husband as they were gaining
entry into their compound in Ngoigwa Estate. Her husband, who is an ENT surgeon
in Murang’a survived with four bullets on both the head and the chest.
In May this year, Edward Mburu, aka “Mumari” who
operated a taxi at Makongeni Thika, went missing after receiving a call from
unknown person at around 11pm. His decomposing body was later discovered buried
in a shallow grave at Nanga village in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
Earlier in March, three armed men shot and killed a
prominent businessman in front of his 9-year old son at his shop in
Thika’s Makongeni Phase 5 Estate.
55-year old James Ndung’u Gitau was accosted by the thugs
suspected to be three in number at around 8:15pm as they were preparing to
close down.
These murders followed several others that included that of a
prominent taxi driver was killed in cold blood attack by unknown people inside
his compound in Section 9 estate, Thika town in November last year.
Earlier the same month, another businessman was shot dead by
unknown assailants outside his house in Kiganjo Estate, Thika West Sub-County.
Paul Kiarie was gunned down at around 9pm under mysterious
circumstances just a few metres from his gate.
On the morning of Christmas 2017, a 55-year old woman was stabbed
to death by an unknown number of people outside her house in Makongeni Phase IV
Thika. Lucy Nyambura Kang’ethe, is said to have gotten out of the house to
light a jiko in preparation for a Christmas luncheon for her family at around
6am when the incident happened.
This is not withstanding the death of Mrs. Joyce Wambui
Githitu, a very prominent Thika businesswoman who was bludgeoned to death in
February 2017 at her home in Maki Estate, Murang'a County by assailants who
broke into her compound at night.
Her husband, Peter Githitu died in 2006 after he was shot by
gunmen shot in a broad daylight in Thika Town.
