Bodaboda operators relocated for security reasons

All the over 500 Boda Bodas operators at Ndarugu stage off the Thika-Nairobi Super Highway in Juja of Kiambu County, will forthwith be relocated to the Mang’u High Schoolfootbridge stage for security reasons.
The move was unanimously agreedupon during a security meeting held at Juste Hotel in Witeithie Estate.
The meeting presided over by Juja Sub-County Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Charles Muriithi and attended by stakeholders, noted that apart from the Ndarugu Stage being a road carnage black spot, the same was a haven for criminal activities.
Muriithi said very many people had lost their lives through accidents at the Ndarugu spot while some of the Boda Boda operators were engaged in crime.
He said by shifting the stage to Mang’u footbridge, the movewill pave way for proper vetting and management of operators.
Juja Sub-County AP commander (DAPC) Doreen Gitonga said after relocating the Bodas, focus will now be on Ndarugu Quarry Brokers.She said some of the brokers are criminals.
The meeting also resolved that pool table games would operate along the set bar operating and closing times.
It was also agreed that all touts at Witeithie stage be wiped out as they were breeding criminals.
Komu Location Chief Muiruri Muchui said that some Boda Boda operators were the ones ferrying drugs, illicit brews and criminals.
Witeithie stage Boda Boda Sacco secretary John Thungu admitted that criminals had infiltrated the sector. He urged colleagues to name the criminals in their midst.
Witeithie Post AP boss James Dawai said if the operators were genuine, they would have at least arrested a suspect.
Juja OCS Zacharia Ateya urged members of the public to exercise their constitutional right of applying Public Arrest Act.Under this Act, one was allowed to arrest suspect hand him / her over to the authorities. The DCC said that no group of people will be allowed to extort money from contractors by purporting they are the ones supposed to dig foundations of buildings. He instructed chiefs and police to arrest such elements.
