ERC announces new petrol prices in March fuel review
The cost of super
petrol has dropped marginally according to the new fuel review prices announced
by the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) Tuesday morning.
Super petrol is down by Sh 0.46 to now retail at sh 107.46 in
Nairobi.
However diesel and kerosene go up by Sh 0.90 and Sh 0.70 respectively.
Diesel will retail at Sh 97.86 while Kerosene hits Sh77.45 in Nairobi which is
the mean average of fuel prices.
Over the same period, the mean monthly US Dollar to Kenya
Shilling exchange rate appreciated by 1.21 percent from Sh102.68 per US $ in
January 2017 to Sh101.44 per US$ in February 2018.
“The purpose of the fuel pricing regulations is to cap the
pump prices of the products which are already in the country so that the
importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered, while ensuring
reasonable prices to consumers,” said ERC Director General Robert Oimeke.
Oimeke adds that the improved efficiencies in the pipeline
have saved consumers Sh0.16 per super petrol.
