Disquiet over Jubilee list of Nominated MCAs in Kiambu County (Full List).

Jubilee Party is facing disquiet and anger in its backyards over alleged unfair awarding of the party’s nomination slots. A section of its membership are up in arms against the party leadership claiming that those picked for nominations as MCAs did not merit because they were picked courtesy of their links to party officials.

They have accused a section of local party officials of nominating relatives and cronies of Jubilee’s senior politicians. Some of the names forwarded, they claim, include girlfriends and relatives of some of the MPs and county leaders. 

In its endeavour towards the fair, equitable and inclusive representation of every person in the country, the Constitution of Kenya has singled out and made clear provisions for their representation, persons with disabilities, youth, minorities and marginalised groups. To this end, it provides for various levels of apportionment of electoral (and executive) positions to ensure that every person or group is not only equitably and effectively represented at the national law-making processes in the Houses of Parliament, but locally, at the County Assemblies as well.

They say, old habits die hard. As was expected, following the list going round as what the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released to be the Jubilee Party’s list of nominations of Members to the County Assemblies (MCAs), it is quite clear that it does not conform to the constitutional requirements discussed above.

Jubilee Party has actually breached its nomination rules in submitting names in the following ways;-

(a) The allocation lists for each County Assembly do not reflect regional (meaning a distribution of the seats amongst the various constituencies/wards in Counties) and ethnic diversity; 

(b) That the process of short-listing by the political parties was riddled with nepotism, bias and probably corruption; 

(c) Most of the people nominated as representatives do not qualified to represent the interests of Persons With Disability (PWD), youth and marginalised groups;

(d) Certain persons nominated are not from the political parties that are entitled to the seats in question; 

(e) There are possibilities that some of these party nominees are not registered as voters nor residents of the respective counties; 

(f) That certain persons nominated were public officers at the time of their nomination.

The following is the names of those nominated in the Kiambu Assembly as per the list going round as the Jubilee Party official selection.

NB:  In the National Assembly, Kiambu County did not get any slot while in the Senate, Businessman Isaack Mwaura ID No. 22484569 aged 38 was the only nominee for Persons with Disability Nominees to the Senate.
