The scorching sun in Thika town could not stop hundreds of
students drawn from learning institutions from attending the Kenya Red Cross
Society (KRCS) Thika Branch walk dubbed “Walk For Life” on the 20th May
2017 in Thika town.
The main purpose of the race was to raise funds to support
KRCS activities in Thika.
The event attracted the participation of more than 200
persons of whom majority were high school and primary school pupils, with
members of the public being treated to random emergency drills during the walk,
with an aim of accessing how well Thika is prepared to handle disasters.

The event was graced by the KRCS Kiambu County Chair Madam Winnie,
Thika Branch Chairman Erastus Thuo, Life Member and Lil Magic CEO Cess Munene, county
government officials among others.

“The aim of holding this walk is to replenish our disaster kitty and as we approach the general elections as Kenya Red Cross Society Thika branch we would like to urge residents of Thika to maintain peace during and after the elections, as a branch we are ready to provide assistance of any kind our presence in this industrial town provides a greater opportunity to influence local actors into action in strengthening humanitarian assistance systems and structures.” Said Thuo
Madam Winnie emphasized the importance of such initiatives
geared towards fundraising and sustainability or activities at the grassroots
level and called upon Thika Branch members to strengthen their outreach and
expand to various learning institutions.
