Two Thika-based prominent businessmen have officially taken the gauntlet to join active politics after they received their golden membership certificate from the National Alliance Party- TNA, setting the stage for probable launch of their political careers.

Dr. Dominic Ichugu Gachanja and Chege Wa Gathu were presented with their certificates at a TNA members’ function in Thika by Kiambu TNA coordinator Madam Gladys Chania Mwangi.

Gachanja announced his entry into politics hinting that he would seek an elective position as an MCA Chania Ward of Gatundu North Constituency, Kiambu County. He said that the certificate would enable him go to the people of Chania Ward and begin sampling the issues that faced them.

“I am extremely excited today for this is a major milestone and a major step in my political journey. This certificate will enable me participate in party affairs, including the Jubilee coalition merger to be held in Kasarani as from tomorrow (Thursday),” said Gachanja.

He said that his move was triggered by the fact that majority of the current crop of leaders plunged themselves into political leadership with the previous mindset of councilors in the former local authorities. This, he said, led to majority of them not serving the wananchi to their best.

”If you look at the way these leaders have handled themselves over the last few years since the devolved system of government was actualised, it is very clear that they never had an idea what this new system entailed. So, when they assumed office, all they did was to misappropriate public resources through irregular use of funds. They did not have any development agenda. That is why you see the in-development that is bedeviling our areas,” he said.

Otherwise, he was happy that now the wananchi were aware of their roles in the system and he was sure that they will vote in the right persons to the job come next General Elections.

As for Chege, he said that he was so overwhelmed by the accolade adding that he had not yet decided to vie for any seat other than he wanted to support the party with moral and financial support.

“I am not yet into active politics though I can never rule this option out completely. I just made this decision to actually support the party and His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta in his bid to unite all Kenyans and in his pursuit to take the country to the next level in terms of development,” said Chege.

The two businessmen supported the idea of Jubilee merger saying that it was in line with developed democracies where they were ran by two or three very strong parties. They too supported the law against party-hopping saying that this habit jeopardised democracy and policy discipline among our politicians.

“If you look at the developed countries, they trade in just two or three major parties. This is where Kenya is heading to. Some of this parties that we see here are just briefcase outfits meant to benefit some opportunists who use them to sell the country to the highest bidders. We need to start dealing with policy-based political parties and politics,” said Gachanja.

While presenting these certificates, TNA Kiambu coordinator Madam Chania said that she was soon relinquishing her party position and joining the race for the county’s Women Representative seat.
