Grandpa Remanded For Defrauding Two People Nearly sh. 1m In Fake Land Sales.
An elderly man in his late 70s has been arraigned in a Thika
court in connection with defrauding another person his money in pretext that he
could sell him a parcel of land.
John Muiruri Wainaina was arrested by Ruiru police
for allegedly, on different dates, defrauding Nancy Kamau and Jacob Chege of Sh.
400,000 and Sh. 500,000 respectively, under the pretext that he was selling a
plot of land in Ruiru Sub-County of Kiambu.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Theresa Murigi, Wainaina
pleaded not guilty to the charges of using deceptive means to sell land to two
different clients.
Wainaina was charged with selling a non-existent piece of
land to Nancy Kamau at a cost of Sh. 400,000 on June 22 this year.
A second charge stated that he received Sh. 500,000 from
Jacob Chege by pretending that he could sell to him a plot in Ruiru Town on
August 9.
The prosecutor, Naomi Wangeci, requested the court to deny
Wainaina bond as he had other cases pending before the Thika and Kiambu law
courts.
The prosecutor added that the accused had been failing to
appear before the courts and had been using different names in those courts
thus causing confusion.
The accused however pleaded with the court to give him bond
saying he was the sole bread winner of his family. He further explained to the court that he was not
able to attend the other proceedings as he was sick.
He will be remanded until September 5 when the magistrate
would rule on the bond application.
