President Uhuru Kenyatta has agreed to name a team to spear head reforms over the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issue.

During his address to the nation  Wednesday afternoon, the President said:

“Following consultations with speakers of the Senate and the National Assembly and religious leaders I had agreed to form a team that would seek to end the current impasse on IEBC, therefore a joint select committee of both Houses of Parliament will be set up in accordance with Standing Orders of both Houses with the sole mandate exclusively limited to the matter of IEBC,”.

In a move that appears to be heeding to the religious leaders and opposition coalition’s demands for an “out-of-parliament” dialogue on the timeliness of IEBC to hold a free and fair election come 2017.

The President will on Thursday hold a joint parliamentary meeting with members of Jubilee Coalition to agree on the membership of the party in the committee.
