Kenyans will go to the polls on 8th August 2017. This is according to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Addressing the press on Thursday, IEBC chair Issack Hassan said that preparations for the elections are already underway. He added that the commission targeted to register 4 million new voters. They have also scheduled a one-month mass voter registration exercise starting from February 14 to March 15, 2016.

“IEBC is in the final stage in finalizing diaspora voter registration policies and will start registering Kenyans in diaspora as soon as that is done,” he said.

He further noted that the commission has started verifying signatures for the Okoa Kenya referendum push, saying the exercise will be completed in 90 days. He stated that Okoa Kenya referendum can be held alongside the next General Election to avoid redundancy.

The commission, however, bemoaned lack of sufficient funds calling for more allocations from the National Treasury to enable it prepare well for the elections.
